Last school holiday, I decided to go into the jungle to find a lion and I asked a Nepalese guide,Kamal Rai, to go with me.
We left the camp at six in the morning with two elephants carrying out our equipment. We left early because it is unusual to find lions in the afternoon. They usually sleep in the heat of the day. Kamal made me wear shoes and trousers to protect me from snakes. We climbed onto the elephants’ back to get a better view.
A few moments later, we saw a loin in the distance. Kamal asked me to keep calm. We crept nearer and found a dead deer still bleeding. This was tiger’s prey. Suddenly I started to be very frightened. We heard the tiger before we saw it. It jumped out like a flash of lightening. The lion was about five hundreds kilos and four meters long. I looked into its eyes. I could feel its dignity. Suddenly the lion grapped Kamal’s leg between its teeth, but I managed to pull Kamal away. One of our elephants ran at the lion and made it go back into the grass. We quickly escaped to let the tiger eat its prey. That night it was impossible to sleep.
